Diagnostic
Endoscopy

Endoscopy is a veterinary field that has led to rapid advancements in diagnosing and treating diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, the upper respiratory system (nose, larynx, trachea), lower respiratory system (bronchi), urinary system, reproductive system, and ear. It involves the non-invasive imaging of organ lumens using a flexible or rigid tool called an endoscope. We provide a wide range of diagnostic endoscopies for feline and canine patients. All endoscopic procedures are performed under general anaesthesia with the presence of an experienced anaesthesiologist and are preceded by extensive blood, biochemical lab tests, and other imaging diagnostic modalities such as ultrasound, CT/ MRI scans, whenever deemed necessary.

In all endoscopic procedures:

  • An 8-12 hour fasting period is required.
  • Biopsies are procured for histopathological examination and cultures
  • Cytological smears are taken using a brush, lavage, or other materials for culture.
  • Video documentation of lesions is recorded. The pet’s owner or the referring vet receives a complete medical report of the observed lesions, as well as their potential underlying cause.

Interventional
Endoscopy

Advances in endoscopic techniques have opened new horizons in practical applications, offering a wide range of minimally invasive endoscopic therapeutic interventions. Interventional or therapeutic endoscopy has largely replaced or modified the indications for surgical procedures, especially for diseases of the gastrointestinal, urinary, and upper/lower respiratory systems in dogs and cats. Techniques such as peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM), endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), and endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) are among the groundbreaking methods that allow for the precise treatment of gastrointestinal conditions. Additionally, endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), intragastric obesity balloons, and endoscopic gastric plication—widely used in human medicine—are expected to be the next step in therapeutic endoscopy for the treatment of diseases in dogs and cats.
